I was wondering if anyone saw the recent piece in Firstline magazine about salaries of vet techs by regions. It seems like the southwest is the place to be with credentialed techs averaging around $40,000/yr. I am curious to see what some of you techs think of these salaries...any thoughts?

So, the short version of the backstory is that I graduated about 7 years ago, went straight from school into the big shiny emerg/referral clinic, and completely burned myself out working there (I lasted about three years). I took a few months off, and then went to a smaller family practice with overnight emerg, and worked nights there for 2 years. I was recently on a U.K's VetNurse site and saw a mention of a Pet Healthcare Advisor Service offered at a practice that consisted of qualified Veterinary Nurses (UK's equivalent of a veterinary technician) offering services such as pet weight management, behavioral consulting, blood glucose monitoring, dental services and the like for the clinic's clients. Hi folks,
This is a question I am posing to those who may have Bachelor's degrees in veterinary technology. I am wondering what the difference is between those vet techs with an associate's degree vs. those with a bachelor's degree. Is your bachelor's degree a continuation of the associate's degree with additional vet tech classes or is it more liberal arts classes added on? Just curious...

I have a couple questions...first, does anyone know what the pay range/scale is for a LVT in research? I never considered this before, but found an interesting job as a Sr. Vet Tech doing cardiovascular research. The ad didn't specify what the pay scale was. Sounds interesting and has ok hours (8:30-5:00, M-F, occasional Sat) as well as good benefits as it's a human hospital. Second, has anyone worked in research before? I graduated in 2000.
i'm trying to declutter. I just read the flylady system of home cleaning. ( http://www.flylady.net/ ) The system was creating for me!
anyway, i just went through my old binders of notes from class. Notes, handouts, articles etc. and pitched a bunch of them. I havent looked at them much in the 7 years since graduation, and i've found that when i do want to referance something, i can't find it anyway....

I've been out of the field for about a year (I got REALLY burnt out on the customer service aspect of the job, after spending 2 years as a glorified receptionist) and I'm worried that my skills are going to be gone. The last time I changed jobs, I took 6 weeks off between positions to do a little bit of travelling, and when I went back, it was pretty rough.

Keeping cats warm!!

Does anyone have any cheap tricks to keeping cats warm during anesthesia? We use a heating pad (small square electric pad) but dont think this is very safe. We also use heated up towels, but they loose their heat. We have tryed Snuggle Safe's heating disks, but they do not cover the whole body. We have been looking into a Bair Hugger, but they are very expensive. Anyone have any tricks you can share with me?
